What is smart film?

Smart film is a 0.61 mm thick film that is stuck to the inside of the glass. The film contains liquid crystals. When the power is on, the glass is transparent. When the power is off, the glass is milky white and you cannot see into the room.

There is a busbar on one edge of the film. From there, a thin cable runs to the power supply unit, which can be hidden behind a suspended ceiling, furniture or a service hatch. You do not need curtains or blinds, and the light stays in the room.

Two ways smart film gets onto your glass

The film is the same in both cases. The difference is whether we install it or you do it yourself.

  • Film with installation

    A technician visits the site, measures the glass and shows samples. We install dry and hide the cables inside the frame.

    The most common choice. From 3 m².

  • Film only

    You get film cut to size with a busbar, power supply unit, remote control and installation instructions. If needed, we advise you by video during installation.

    No minimum quantity. Collection in Peetri.

    Installation is dry and dust-free. At the end, we show how to use the remote control or switch. 2-year warranty on the product and work.

If the problem is heat, not privacy, we install 3M Prestige solar control film. It does not reflect, so the look of the building does not change, and it blocks 99.9% of UV radiation.

Where can I see smart film with my own eyes?
You can see smart film on the facade of the Alexela Jüri filling station (Põrguvälja tee 2, Rae vald), in the Moodne Valgustus showroom (Rävala pst 7, Tallinn) and in the Dormax curtain salon at Tähesaju Selver (Tähesaju tee 1, Tallinn). You can also order a sample kit and stick the different tones on your own glass.
How much does smart film cost?
For budgeting, allow approx. 250 € + VAT per square metre, all work included: film, installation, low-voltage electrical work, materials and transport. You can get a preliminary price from the price calculator. We make an exact quote after the technician visit.
What is the smallest order?
With installation, the smallest order is 3 m². If you install it yourself, there is no minimum quantity.
Can I put the film on an existing window?
Yes. Most often we install the film in finished homes and offices. We hide the wires and the power supply unit. You need a power socket to supply the film.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. You get film cut to size, a power supply unit and installation instructions. During installation we can advise you by video. We give an installation warranty only for work we have done.
How much electricity does it use?
The film uses power only when transparent, 4 W per square metre. 20 m² of film that is transparent 16 hours a day uses about 470 kWh per year. At 0.16 €/kWh, that is about 75 € per year.
How are the cables and power supply unit installed?
The glass panes are connected to the power supply unit in parallel with a 2 × 0.75 mm² cable. During construction, bring the cable to the top corner of the glass. The power supply unit measures 179 × 110 × 46 mm and can be up to 20 m away. More details in the electrical work guide.
Is transparent smart film as clear as ordinary glass?
Almost. The haze of transparent film is 3%. Viewed at an angle, the film is slightly milkier than when viewed straight on.
Can you see in from outside when it is dark?
No. If a person stands between a light source and the film, a shadow appears on the film. If you are more than 1.5 metres from the glass, the shadow cannot be seen.
Is smart film suitable for a damp room?
The film edges are sealed with silicone. We do not install film where running water falls directly on it.
Can smart film be damaged?
The film has a scratch-resistant top layer. A sharp object can scratch the film, but this does not affect how it works. Keep the film in good condition by following the care guide.
How do I clean smart film?
Use a soft cloth and a pH-neutral cleaning agent. Do not soak the glass with water; this damages the film and the warranty does not apply.
How long does smart film last?
The film's lifespan is over 100 000 operating hours, or at least 12 years.
Can it be installed on a sliding door, a roof window or specially shaped glass?
Yes. The film can be cut round, triangular and slanted. We choose a suitable solution during the technician visit.
Can smart film be put on a car window?
Only on fixed windows that are as flat as possible. We have installed it on the windows of a Mercedes V-Class. After installation, the window no longer opens.
Where do you install?
Everywhere in Estonia, and in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Latvia and Lithuania.
